What’s really sad is it never got weird enough for me. . . Lazlo and Nixon are both gone now, but I don’t think I’m going to believe that ’til I can gnaw on their skulls with my very own teeth. . . If they’re out there, I’m going to find them, and I’m going to gnaw on their skulls. Because it still hasn’t gotten weird enough for me. - Hunter S. Thompson

Here is my radio story for December 4.

Marchildon on Toxic Toys

My comments:

To some extent, I hit my stride last night. I had the advantage of knowing about my topic before I got my assignment. A couple months ago, I read Mark Schapiro’s book Exposed: The Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Products and What’s at Stake for American Power. I tried many, but could not get a hold of any toxicology experts, and Dr. Earl Gray at the EPA could not talk to me unless the agency’s PR people cleared it first. Those people, and most of my interviews were on the east coast. That gave me about an hour to track down and interview all the people on the eastern seaboard before they went home.

It all came together for me. I even finished in time to practice out loud before recording and change sentences that didn’t read well. Schapiro emailed me and told me how much he liked the piece and one of the news directors wrote me this morning complimenting it, especially the Schapiro interview.
