Jareducation

What’s really sad is it never got weird enough for me. . . Lazlo and Nixon are both gone now, but I don’t think I’m going to believe that ’til I can gnaw on their skulls with my very own teeth. . . If they’re out there, I’m going to find them, and I’m going to gnaw on their skulls. Because it still hasn’t gotten weird enough for me. - Hunter S. Thompson

Presidio Trust Story

ANCHOR:

THE PRESIDIO TRUST HELD A PUBLIC FORUM LAST NIGHT ON PLANS TO CONSTRUCT A CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM ON THE MAIN POST, IN THE HEART OF THE PRESIDIO. THOSE OPPOSED ITS CONSTRUCTION SAY THE ART MUSEUM WOULD NOT BE AN APPROPRIATE USE OF THE HISTORIC SITE. JARED MARCHILDON REPORTS.

Marchildon on Presidio Development

This is my first field-reported story. Because I got the sound the night before, I had time to really play with the story and learn a few new tricks. John Hamilton, one of the main anchors, also had time to edit my script twice, listen to my audio clips and give me advice. At first he was sceptical of using a voxpop (”voice of the people”-the collage of voices at the beginning of the story), but after he read the script he told me to make one and use it.

I also got some audio editing. Rose, who works with Free Speech Radio News and does technical work for the station, recorded my sound. She gave me tips on reading and had me redo several parts. She then took it and edited the audio for me. So, my story got reworked and I got some nice tips yesterday. The story came ou really nicely because of this better editing process (something KPFA has recently vowed to improve!).
