Labor story

Had to scramble a little more on this one. I knew nothing about the SEIU when I was assigned to report on it. So, I was a little lost listening to the press conference I was covering. The labor reporter was not in and the anchor who is very familiar with the SEIU was not there either to help me out. It took me a while to figure out what they were even voting on. I started playing with the audio techniques Rose showed me the other day.
Anchor: THE SERVICE EMPLOYEES NATIONAL UNION—SEIU—IS COUNTING BALLOTS TONIGHT ON A FORCED MERGER OF THE LOCAL HEALTH CARE UNIONS. NOT MANY BALLOTS TO COUNT THOUGH. UNION MEMBERS BOYCOTTED WHAT THEY CALL A SHAM ELECTION. JARED MARCHILDON REPORTS.
I left out the whole part of the story on corruption. Andy Stern’s crew in Washington has lauched accusations against Roselli. They tried to hang him over a $3 million dollar fund he created for the union. They called it a slush fund for his own legal defense. When it came before a judge, s/he threw it out because the plaintiffs didn’t have enough of a case. Stern’s crew though is facing internal SEIU investigations. As soon as they were charged, three of his top officials quit. Lots of journalists and scholars talk about all the backroom deals SEIU international works with politicians. They decided national strategy in a convention in Puerto Rico.
