Hillary Flattens Iran

Lost in the anger over the economic team and the re-appointment of Robert Gates (or did Obama even have the choice?) was Hillary Clinton’s nomination as Secretary of State. The environmentalists have reason to worry over his appointments (though I have a hard time hating too much on Ken Salazaar because he is from my home state), and all people on the left or hurt in this economic crisis should be pissed about Lawrence and the economic team, and everyone with a heart should be ticked about Gates. So, with all of these bad appointments (and he did make some good ones), I had forgotten about Clinton.
I had forgotten that she had decided she would flatten Iran if it so much as threatens Israel. The warrior mentality and overt militarism of US foreign policy is such a weary topic for me, it is hardly worth debating. What is interesting is that we somehow think this man is going to change things.
Check out these two essays by Robert Fisk. In the first he rips on Clinton’s remark, and reminds us that the US tortures and imprisons even outside Guatanamo. In the second he tells us an important sign to watch for with Obama: will he recognize the Armenian genocide? It will reveal a lot about how he will be bullied by the military establishment.
To follow up on last night’s post in which I deride US hypocracy in blaming the victims (Gazans). I stand justified by maybe the most honest, experienced, and FAIR expert on the Middle East, Robert Fisk. He questions Obama for using the bogus word “progress” when referring to Israel-Palestine.
